Thomas-Mashburn Antique Steam Tractor Parade
Cumming, Georgia - July 4, 2006

It started in 1958. A.G Thomas took his freshly restored 1912 Case steam traction engine out for a drive. He went around the town square of Cumming, Georgia. All along the route he blew the whistle, arousing the town people. Many citizens followed behind the steam engine on horses, bicycles, cars, trucks, or foot.
The next year, more steam engines tractors and a grain thresher gathered at the Thomas and Webb Lumber Yard. They paraded the engines around the courthouse square and up Pilgrim Mill Road to the home of Dr. James Mashburn. There they gave the parade followers a demonstration of steam engine powered wheat threshing.
That's how the Thomas-Mashburn Steam Engine Parade started. Today there are probably a total of about thirty five engines in the county. Many of them participate in the parade every July 4th.
